After 29 years coaching field hockey for Harford County Public Schools, Alice Puckett is returning home to John Carroll as the new Head Field Hockey Coach. A 1977 graduate and a three-sport student athlete at John Carroll, Puckett went on to amass a 366-86-19 field hockey record as a coach including 11 state championships, 18 Harford County championships and 20 regional championships. She was named National Field Hockey Coach of the Year in 2005, is a 4-time Baltimore Sun All-Metro Coach of the Year, and has been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame both at John Carroll and Bridgewater College.
"I am returning to JC to coach to honor one of the most influential people that I worked under at John Carroll, Ms. Beverly Hill," Puckett said. She played field hockey and basketball for Ms. Hill and also served as her aide in physical education classes her junior and senior years. This experience led Puckett to pursue a degree in physical education, which turned into a 33-year career in physical education.
Inheriting a team that repeated as IAAM B Conference Champions this year, Puckett knows she can expect the best from her team. "I expect the athletes to be dedicated to their team and work hard academically and athletically. School always comes first but the team is a close second. I want to continue to build on the success that Mr. Scholl has achieved winning back to back championships. Hopefully I can provide some insight into the history of the school and the sports program."
Alice Puckett is married to her husband Mark, and they have 2 children, Andy, who is married to Deanna Puckett, and Lindsey, who played field hockey for the University of Maryland on the 2010 and 2011 National Champion teams.
