The American Indian PowWow Morning Star Celebration, which is the 16th Annual Benefit for St. Labré Indian School, will take place at John Carroll on Saturday, January 9, 2016. Featured during the day are Native American flute playing, gourd dancing, folk music, and a performance by the St. Labre Student Drum Group and Dancers. There will be 6 drum groups and over 100 dancers. The Master of Ceremonies, Dennis Zotigh, is a nationally known MC and PowWow expert, who currently works for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington.
Leading up to the PowWow, the school's main showcase will be filled with Indian art and culture material. On Wednesday, January 6, there will be a whole school assembly featuring Native American wisdom, “Spirit Wing,” an Iroquois singing group, and slide presentations on the Montana Service trip and the JC PowWow.
All are welcome to come to the Morning Star Celebration and celebrate American Indian culture as they enjoy the food and art/crafts. The doors open at 10 a.m., with the Grand Entry at 1 p.m. Suggested donation for admission is $5 per adult and $2 per child. Proceeds benefit St. Labré Indian School in Ashland, Montana.
