No amount of rain could dampen the spirits of those in attendance for the dedication of JC's newly renovated spaces and Alumni Field at Kutcher Foundation Stadium on Wednesday, March 24.
President Steve DiBiagio, Board Chair Mark Ramsay '77, Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations Susan Butcher Roarty ’95 and Director of Mission & Ministry Zac Ufnar welcomed Archbishop William Lori to campus, where he first blessed the Learning Commons and Courtyard before proceeding to the baseball field for a special dedication ceremony.
Following Archbishop Lori’s blessing of the field, the program continued with remarks from Harford County Executive Barry Glassman, County Councilman Tony Giangiordano, who presented John Carroll with a county proclamation in recognition of this historic achievement, President DiBiagio, John Kutcher, Sue Weller Kutcher '85, Tim Kutcher '15 and Coach Darrion Siler '01. Other special guests and dignitaries in attendance included Archdiocese Chancellor of Education Jim Sellinger, Chief Advisor to the County Executive Billy Boniface ’82, Harford County Council President Patrick Vincenti, County Councilman Robert Wagner and former Baltimore Orioles legend Joe Orsulak. In a touching tribute, Coach Siler dedicated the home dugout to the memories of Patriot baseball players James Guthrie ’69 and Joshua Hamer ’19, both noted as talented athletes who exemplified the program’s focus on leadership and a team-first attitude. Although we could not play intra-squad game as planned due to weather, in the spirit of baseball we welcomed Gabby Spencer ’22 to sing the National Anthem followed by a ceremonial first pitch from Sue Kutcher to Coach Siler. The event was emceed by Jeremy Conn of Baltimore's 105.7 The Fan radio.
Alumni Field at Kutcher Foundation Stadium was made possible by a generous and record-setting grant from the Kutcher Foundation, and will provide unique educational opportunities for students in the fields of computer science, data analytics and sports journalism.
