After thirty-eight years of teaching Mathematics at John Carroll, Mr. Alvin Ward retired in June. A graduate of the Class of 1970, Al has come full circle at his beloved Alma Mater, having experienced JC as both a student and teacher. His involvement at John Carroll included: playing baseball and football, sports that he would later coach; serving as the first president of the John Carroll Alumni Association; developing lifelong friendships with colleagues who had once taught him; and proudly educating students in his favorite subject at the school he loved. Al's connection with John Carroll was both personal and professional, being one of four Ward siblings who attended the school. Including wife Beth (von Paris) Ward '74 and daughters Kristy '02 and Teresa '04, sixteen relatives are JC alums. Al exemplifies the best of John Carroll as an alumnus, teacher, coach and role model. Fortunately for John Carroll, Al's legacy will continue through his daughter, Teresa Ward Pleiss '04, who is stepping directly into her father's footsteps and will soon be teaching Math in his former classroom...Room 105.
