STEM Academy is excited to welcome Dr. Bruce P. Burns to campus on Tuesday November 19th. Dr. Burns ran the egg drop at STEM Day and will be returning to talk about some of the highlights of his career as an engineer. He studied at Drexel University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, his Master’s Degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and his Ph.D. in Applied Mechanics. Dr. Burns served two and a half years of active duty as an Army Officer in the Corps of Engineers. He was a Basic and Applied Researcher, as well as a Project Leader in Ballistics and Engineering Mechanics in Ballistics Research Laboratories and the Army Research Laboratory. Dr. Burns has more than twenty years of management experience as a Senior Manager at the Ballistic Research Laboratories and Army Research Laboratory. He is the author of more than one hundred and twenty technical publications and patents, including technical reports and books. Additionally, he has developed more than two hundred and fifty technical presentations. Dr. Burns is nationally and internationally known and is the Founding Member and former Vice Chairman of the International Ballistics Committee, as well as the organizer of the International Symposia on Ballistics. Dr. Burns’ last position was as a Fellow with the Oak Ridge Affiliated Universities. Dr. Burns is a founding member and past President of the Senior Science Society of Harford County, affiliated with Harford Community College, and is currently President of the Senior Science Society Foundation, Inc. Dr. Burns will be speaking in the Brown Room from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 10 10:30 a.m.
