We are delighted to share with the John Carroll community that our own Science Department Chair Dr. Julie Baker was officially named the 2021 Independent Catholic High School Teacher of the Year by the Archdiocese of Baltimore!
Dr. Donna Hargens, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore surprised Dr. Baker with the news of the award during her Environmental Science class today, calling her "a great teacher among great teachers."
Dr. Baker was selected from a pool of teachers nominated by every school, all of whom were recipients of their school's 2020 Teacher of the Year award. This is the first time a teacher from The John Carroll School has been honored with this award.
Principal Durkin describes Dr. Baker as "a role model for students, caring deeply for both her subject and her students."
Dr. Baker will have the opportunity to celebrate this prestigious award in person in August at the Archdiocese of Baltimore Convocation with Archbishop Lori.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Baker on this tremendous honor!
