Navy Midshipman Mathew Miller (John Carroll Class of 2011) won the EIWA (Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association) 174lbs. championship over the weekend after collecting 3 out of 4 of his wins by first-period pin, including one in the final. Miller, whose younger sister Samiah is a class of 2015 Patriot student athlete, was a National Prep champion for the Patriots in 2011 at the 171lbs. weight class. "I am thrilled for Mathew and his family. His success is due to a ton of hard work and dedication," said Coach Watson. Miller also was the recipient of the Sheridan Award, which is given to the wrestler who scores the most falls in the least amount of time at the tournament (he pinned 3 out of 4 of his opponents in 10:14). It is now onto the NCAA Wrestling Tournament for Mat where, with an automatic bid, he seeks to become an All-American, as well as one of only a handful of Marylanders to ever win a coveted NCAA crown. The JC Wrestling Team and our entire school community is very proud of Mat's accomplishments. Go Patriots!
