Maura Donnelly '09 recently graduated from the University of Maryland and will be serving as a missionary with FOCUS, the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, at the University of Rhode Island starting this August. FOCUS is a response to the Church's call for a new evangelization, in which missionaries invite college students into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. This fall, 400+ full-time missionaries will be on 83 college campuses leading Bible studies, mentoring students one-on-one, and teaching them to do the same. In a recent conversation, Maura explained what led to her involvement with FOCUS. "During my time at Maryland, I realized that the most joyful people I knew had a relationship with Jesus Christ. I never knew that my life could have such great meaning, or that a relationship with Christ could have such an impact on my life and the lives of other students. Through full-time ministry with FOCUS I hope to reach out to even more students, demonstrating and proclaiming the truth, beauty, and goodness of living an authentic Catholic life." FOCUS missionaries fundraise their salaries to support their full time ministry, and cannot report to campus without financial support.
