Recently, John Carroll edged out teams from Harford, Carroll and Frederick Counties to win the region in the Maryland Math League. This competition was broken into 6 afternoon contests from October to March and was open to all students, with the top 5 individual student scores from each contest counting towards the cumulative school score. In one contest, there were as many as 98 students participating. The top-scoring students in the Maryland Math League were consistently Min Kim, Vanilla Tong, Jerry Wang, Jaeik Sa, Anthony Kim, Sunny Zhou, Sonny Hu, Matt Lowery, Steven Dierksmeier, Yena Kim, Betty Shen and Owen Wang, with many ties for the top scores within each contest. Freshman Ivy Ding also scored in 5 out of the 6 contests, which is something no other freshman achieved this year.
