The John Carroll School is happy to announce that Ken Brinkman has been named as the Head Varsity Football Coach, taking over for Keith Rawlings who announced that he would step down at the end of the 2017 season. Coach Brinkman brings tremendous leadership and a proven track record of success to the Patriots' program.
Brinkman has been an assistant on the John Carroll staff for the past 3 years. Prior to joining the Patriots staff, he spent 12 years as the Head Football Coach at North Harford High School where he amassed a career head coaching record of 89-48. Under his leadership, the Hawks won four UCBAC Championships including an undefeated season in 2010. He has served as an Executive Member of the Baltimore Touchdown Club and was on the Selection Committee for the Maryland Big 33 Game and the Maryland Crab Bowl.
Coach Brinkman has a Bachelor’s of Science in Health and Physical Education from Indiana University of PA and a Masters in Athletic Administration from McDaniel College. He has had a 25-year career as a Physical Education and Health teacher in Harford County and currently teaches at Aberdeen Middle School.
Coach Brinkman is also very excited to announce that he will be retaining Coach Bill Lewis as his Offensive Coordinator. Coach Lewis has been on the Patriots staff for past 10 years and has been the architect of the school’s prolific offense including the record-breaking championship season of 2015 where the team went undefeated and captured the MIAA B Conference Championship. With Lewis as Offensive Coordinator, the Patriots have averaged an impressive 29 points per game.
John Carroll Athletic Director Steve Teter states, “It’s a great opportunity for John Carroll to name such an accomplished and proven head coach as Ken Brinkman to lead our program. He will provide leadership to continue to build on our outstanding tradition. I am also thankful that we are able to retain Coach Lewis who has been such a valuable asset to our school community for the past decade.”
Coach Brinkman will remain in his assistant coaching duties under Head Coach Keith Rawlings for the team’s final two home games against conference opponents St. Paul’s (Friday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m.) and Archbishop Curley (Saturday, November 4th at 4:00 p.m.).
