National School Music Awards
John Carroll Music Medal - Delaney Runge '20
This award goes to a senior for active involvement and participation in vocal of instrumental music and for expressing a positive attitude and encouraging success in others.
The Director's Award for Chorus - Anna King '20
The Director's Award for Chorus honors an outstanding choral member.
National School Marching Award – James Hughes '20
The National School Marching Award recognizes outstanding contributions on the field. It honors the musical contributions and dedication of student leaders whose example inspires others.
Louis Armstrong Jazz Award – John Desoto '20
The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was inaugurated with the consent of his widow shortly after this great artist died in 1971. It is intended to honor the outstanding jazz musician at each high school.
Patrick S. Gilmore Award – Kay Lani Morgan '22
The Patrick S. Gilmore Award was introduced in 1994 in honor of the legendary bandmaster and impresario. Patrick Gilmore and his band joined General Burnside's expedition to North Carolina in the Civil War. Gilmore played for every president of his day, including Abraham Lincoln. This award honors outstanding high school band students and their achievements and commitment to the band.
Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award - Kate Gromacki '20
In his long career, Bernstein made an indelible mark on the musical world as a conductor, composer and teacher. This award honors students whose musical contributions, dedication and creativity set them apart as deserving of the highest recognition for their achievements.
National School Choral Award - Brenna Patzer '20
The National School Choral Award is the highest honor for high school choral performers. It recognizes the dedication and musical achievement of the top choral student.
National School Orchestra Award - Diane McComas '20
The National School Orchestra Award is the highest honor you can bestow upon a member of the high school orchestra to recognize the excellence in playing and contributions to the ensemble.
John Philip Sousa Band Award - Ryan Vest '21
Introduced in 1955 to honor the top student in the high school band, the John Philip Sousa Band Award recognizes superior musicianship and outstanding dedication. It was created with the approval of Helen Sousa Albert and Priscilla Sousa, daughters of the famous composer and bandmaster.
