Congratulations to the Pacificus yearbook staff who won first place for the 2016 Pacificus in the American Scholastic Press Association’s (ASPA) annual yearbook competition. Over 350 yearbooks were judged from around the country. Elements of the Pacificus that won over the judges included excellence in the fields of writing, photography, and page design. The ASPA writes of the JC publication, “Your yearbook contains elements/sections of a memorable yearbook that will be treasured for years to come.”
English Department Chair and yearbook advisor, Mrs. Zurkowski, took on the yearbook class four years ago and believes that the Pacificus staff and teaching the class are the “best kept secrets at John Carroll.” Mrs. Zurkowski states that the success of the 2016 Pacificus was a direct result of the hard work and dedication of the entire staff. Alexis Young, the editor of the 2016 yearbook, stayed on top of deadlines and production and helped to keep everyone motivated to do the best job possible. Long nights and “lots of pushing in class” are what Mrs. Zurkowski attributes to getting the final edits completed to produce a 250-page award-winning book! “I am so proud of the entire Pacificus staff, and I am confident that there are more awards like this in our future with such outstanding and creative students.”
