The November issue of Reader’s Digest features a story about John Carroll’s graduating class of 2016, and their act of kindness toward one classmate who was separated from his family for four years. Senior Mike Tertsea left his home in Nigeria to come to John Carroll on a basketball scholarship. He had not seen his mother, Felicia Ikpum, in his entire time here at JC. When students and teachers learned that Mike’s mother would not be able to afford the plane ticket to attend her son’s high school graduation, they worked together to raise $1,763 to bring Mike’s mother over from Nigeria. After an emotional reunion between Ikpum and her son, fellow John Carroll classmates and friends recognized the importance of “giving till it helps.”
