After a nationwide search, The John Carroll School welcomes Mr. Tom Durkin as the new Principal/Chief Academic Officer. His official start date is June 12, 2017.
As an educator for over 30 years, Mr. Durkin spent the majority of his career at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Maryland, teaching English, eventually becoming the English Department Chair, and then working as a Learning Specialist in Murray Learning Services for students with learning differences. He has coached championship-winning teams in both tennis and forensics.
In his current role, Mr. Durkin is the Assistant Principal for Academics at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel, Maryland, where he oversees teacher evaluations, scheduling, and professional development. Under his guidance, Pallotti has developed two new academic departments and curricula for four new AP courses.
Mr. Durkin completed his undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s University and has earned a Master’s degree in Modern Studies from Loyola University Maryland. He also holds a Maryland State Certification in Secondary English from Towson University.

O’Hara, President and Interim Principal at John Carroll. “His love of students, passion for education, and pursuit of excellence in all his endeavors make me fully confident that he will provide strong academic leadership for John Carroll well into the future.”
