John Carroll is pleased to announce that Eric Wakefield will assume the role of head coach of the varsity girls basketball team effective this upcoming season. Mr. Wakefield started his coaching and teaching career at Fort Meade High School in 1999. Following his wife on military orders, he played overseas in Heidelberg, Germany until 2002 then returned to Fort Eustis, Virginia where he taught math and coached boys JV and varsity basketball at Woodside High School. In 2009, he moved back overseas to Italy, where he led the Vicenza Boys basketball team to the 2014 DoDDs European Championship.
After the 2014 season, Mr. Wakefield started coaching girls basketball for ASD Vicenza Femminile, a local club basketball team, and also served as assistant coach for the varsity girls basketball team at Vicenza American High School. Since his return to the U.S., Mr. Wakefield has worked as the assistant coach for JC's varsity girls team and also helped coach the Maryland Belles, a 2019 AAU team.
A graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, Mr. Wakefield currently resides in Harford County with his wife, Melissa, and his daughter, Jordan.
