June 12, 2015 – John Carroll Girl’s Lacrosse Coach, Abbey Swift, was named the All-Metro Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun. Coach Swift led her team to the IAAM semifinals in her first season as head coach.
Coach Swift grew up in a lacrosse family in the Baltimore area as one of six children. She attended Towson High School where she played soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. She attended UMBC where she played lacrosse as a midfield and attack player. After UMBC Abbey coached for the Towson Lacrosse Club for three years. Sports have always been a big part of Abbey’s life, which she credits as teaching her many lessons along the way. She now uses those lessons to guide her girls on the field and beyond. Lacrosse has opened up so many opportunities throughout her life and she now sees similar opportunities presenting themselves to her players, and is doubly happy when her players take advantage of them. Coaching at a high level has always been a goal of Abbey’s. “I always knew I wanted to get into coaching either high school or college teams, so when this opportunity opened up at John Carroll I was honored to take the job.”
"I am honored to be named Coach of the Year. The girls worked very hard this year to have the outcome of the season we did and I could not be more proud of them. If it wasn't for the heart, dedication, and teamwork they put into the season and the help from my assistant coaches, none of this would have been possible. I am so happy to be a part of the John Carroll family and community and I look forward to the future ahead."
