On Wednesday, March 11, the 2nd Annual Harford County History Day - part of the National History Day (NHD) Competition - was held at the John Carroll School. Over 125 High School and Middle School Students from all over the county (public, private, and homeschool students) competed over a number of hours demonstrating their projects to a panel of judges based on this year's theme - Leadership and Legacy. Students could choose the focus of their project and select a presentation format of either an exhibit, a research paper, a website, a documentary, or a dramatic presentation. The NHD competition (sponsored by the History Channel and the MD Humanities Council) is the culmination of months of research for the students and an opportunity to proudly display their work to the community. The Patriots had a large number of placers and were very proud of the performance of all or our students. The John Carroll Social Studies Department Chair, Mr. Jake Hollin (who is also the Harford County History Day Coordinator) announced the winners at the end of the competition. "Really everyone here did an amazing job" Hollin said. "Today is just a great example of the talent and drive of all the students. Congratulations to them, their teachers, and their families".
Listed below are the High School and Middle School Winners. All placers now move on to the State Competition held in early May at UMBC and will be competition for a spot at the National Competition.
