The JC Academic Team travelled to the University of Maryland Sunday to compete in the Quiz Bowl State Championships. After qualifying for States at the regional level back in February, JC faced the toughest teams in Maryland, including some perennial powerhouses from Montgomery County. When the dust cleared, JC emerged in tenth place. A season that included a first-round victory on It’s Academic, a fourth place finish in the Catholic League, and cracking the top ten in the state in Quiz Bowl, has to be considered a success. Today we faced the hardest questions we have yet encountered, delivered by college students reading the questions at hyperspeed, all at a relentless pace. Everyone who took the trip to College Park - Kathy Deaver, Justin Hawkins, Will Smith, Annalee Gabler, Lauren Wenig, Nicole Iorio, and Michael Sanphillipo – took turns seizing the buzzer and joining in the battle. Sincere thanks to all of you for your support, and for providing the academic foundation that allowed our students to compete at such a high level.
