As a Catholic school, our faith calls for us to recognize all people as children of God. Inclusion is a core value that is integral to our commitment to ensure that every student is known and valued.
In light of the current crisis our country faces in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, we are sharing the work we have done to date and accelerating actions we are taking to support our Black students, alumni, neighbors and friends during this time of crisis.
We believe that Black Lives Matter, which as many have eloquently explained, does not imply that other lives do not as well. Rather, as Jesus says in Luke 15:4, “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it?” Right now, our Black brothers and sisters are in need.
We can do better as a society founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and we must do better, and we will do better here at John Carroll.
