The John Carroll School, a Catholic, independent, college-preparatory, co-educational high school, established in 1964 and located on 72 acres in Bel Air, Maryland, is currently seeking a seeking a qualified full-time Building Mechanic.
The John Carroll School seeks a qualified full time (hourly) Building Mechanic to provide maintenance support. The person who fills this position is considered an essential employee and should be able to work flexible hours, to include weekends. As a representative of The John Carroll School, the employee is expected to support and carry out the school’s Catholic mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completing assigned work order requests.
- Carrying out periodic maintenance.
- Carrying out event set-ups (staging, tables, chairs, projection screens, etc.).
- Completing basic electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Following detailed written instructions.
- Providing written records of work performed as needed.
- Maintaining organization in Facilities spaces.
- Consistently communicating work progress or any problems to the Facilities Manager.
- Utilizing Personal Protective Equipment and practicing safe work habits, including lock-out/tag-out.
- Other duties as assigned or necessitated by school operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with performing preventive maintenance.
- Training in mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, or plumbing preferred.
- Experience and familiarity with code compliance with respect to all building and physical plant activities.
- Experience working within an occupied, multi-purpose facility (preferably a school environment) and the physical plant operation of same.
- Experience working in, and/or with, non-profit organization(s) preferred.
- Ability to trouble-shoot problems and assess and correct as necessary.
- Solid hands-on skills in carpentry, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
- Strong documentation, record-keeping and organizational skills.
- Must be able to climb ladders and walk extensively and lift at least 50 pounds.
- Must be able to safely operate vehicles, motorized equipment, and hand and power tools on a regular basis.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and groups.
- Ability to communicate concisely and clearly, verbally and in writing.
- Solid computer skills.
- Ability to read, comprehend and utilize site, structural, HVAC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing blueprints.
- Employment is contingent upon satisfactory state & federal background checks, driving record check, completion of VIRTUS Training, and completion of all required employment paperwork.
