The John Carroll School is pleased to announce it has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Knott Foundation. The grant supports investments in the Meoli Robotics and Physics Lab, a multi-purpose lab space used for courses including Physics, Robotics and Engineering as well as for clubs such as Robotics and Droning.
Specifically, the grant will fund a one-time purchase of Robotics, Physics, Engineering and Droning equipment and storage items to enhance student experience and support an expanded curriculum, including the addition of a new course, AP Physics E&MC, which requires specialized equipment to study Electricity and Magnetism. Access to more resources along with the addition of updated, specialized equipment will ensure that instruction includes both introduction to concepts and real-world application.
The John Carroll School President Stephen DiBiagio shared, “John Carroll is extremely grateful to the Knott Foundation for its support. Their investment in this academic program will help ensure our students are prepared for jobs of the future that require strong skills in problem-solving, reasoning, research and data analysis, and communication of complex ideas.”
In recent years, John Carroll has seen an increased interest in the sciences through its STEAM Academy as well as specific courses and clubs including AP Physics, Droning and Robotics. In the last month alone, John Carroll’s Robotics Club achieved the extremely rare feat of earning two consecutive Excellence Awards during back-to-back competitions, placing them second in the state and 89th in the world in the Skills category.
The Knott Foundation awards annual grants based on a competitive application and review process. At John Carroll, the grant was put to use immediately to purchase equipment and storage items which are already being used in the current 2021-2022 school year, including those items pictured below.
