Surviving many challenges through the decades, Title IX is one of the most significant pieces of civil rights legislation in America’s history, and we're proud to celebrate the milestone anniversary all year long.
The best-known way in which Title IX protects students is through its requirement that schools provide the historically underrepresented gender in sports – females – with equal opportunity to participate in athletic activities. But that’s not all Title IX is about. Title IX also protects students in other critical ways, including preventing gender-based violence and harassment, and ensuring all students can continue their education.
We hope that you will join us on during our campus-wide celebration of this historic event as we take time to reflect back on Title IX, its impact and importance — as well as honor the women who moved The John Carroll School forward over the past 50 years.
Throughout the year, we will release videos that both educate current students about why Title IX was such a milestone legislation and inspire them with the stories of women who progressed John Carroll or attribute their success in part to the effects of Title IX during their time here.
